Soup for Simpson, 20th Anniversary
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Bellevue High School’s “Soup for Simpson” Club Celebrates 20th Anniversary with $20,000 Fundraising Goal for New Horizons- a teenage homeless shelter in Seattle.
BELLEVUE, WA – Bellevue High School’s student-led fundraising club, Soup for Simpson, is marking its 20th anniversary with an ambitious goal: raising $20,000 to support New Horizons, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping young people experiencing homelessness in Seattle.
Soup for Simpson was founded in memory of Hunter Simpson, a former BHS student who, after being diagnosed with brain cancer, continued to embody selflessness and generosity. While attending college, Hunter ate only soup to save money on his meal plan—later donating his unused funds to purchase non-perishable food for New Horizons. Hunter was also a recipient of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, but instead of using his wish for himself, he chose to furnish New Horizons’ shelter space. Tragically, he passed away at the age of 19, but his spirit of giving lives on through this annual event.
Started by longtime BHS teacher Kathy Adams, Soup for Simpson has become a cherished school tradition. Each spring, students donate their lunch money to help support New Horizons, turning a simple act of giving into a community-wide celebration featuring live music, free soup, cookies, and a shared commitment to helping others.
To honor 20 years of impact, the club is ramping up efforts to spread the word through social media campaigns and outreach to the local community. We need your help to reach our $20,000 goal!
Our Event is April 2, 2025 at 12:45 PM in the Bellevue High School Commons.
